Raleigh, January 4, 2023 – BlueLena today has announced that Don MacGregor is joining its team as a Senior Media Consultant where he will lead a newly created consulting practice focused on technology and digital transformation strategies for daily publishers across North America.
This new media consulting practice will complement BlueLena’s core platform licensing, systems integration and managed marketing services, and will specifically serve organizations requiring a more intensive level of engagement, often as a critical first step to major technology-related transitions.
“We are thrilled to have Don joining BlueLena to help lead this effort and accelerate digital transformation for local news organizations,” said Daniel Williams, founder and CEO of BlueLena. “He has decades of experience navigating technology changes, guiding strategy shifts and brings a proven track record with delivering operational improvements and performance gains.”
The practice will build upon BlueLena’s recent successes supporting daily publishers like M Roberts Media, The Day, Chatham News & Record, Shaw Media and dozens of other independent news outlets with major technology transitions including discovery, scoping, readiness assessment, vendor evaluation and selection, systems implementation and ongoing strategy support.
“As we move into 2023, we are hearing from many publishers of a need for expertise and consulting services that work closely with senior executives and management ranging from small-to-medium sized group publishers to large daily newspapers to identify and drive operational changes,” said MacGregor. “I’m excited to put my experience and learnings to use in helping publishers pursue these efforts.”
Since its launch in April 2020, BlueLena has delivered marketing automation technology and professional services on behalf of over 200 independent news organizations, enabling rapid growth of digital audiences and recurring reader revenues. The new media consulting practice will augment its core platform licensing and managed marketing services.
“BlueLena continues to invest in building solutions that help publishers better grow, engage and monetize its audiences. Introducing our media strategy consulting services comes at an important point as all publishers continue to confront continuous technology innovation, changes in media consumption habits and overall business model transformation”, added Williams.
Don joins BlueLena from McClatchy, where he most recently served as Vice President, Consumer Marketing & Sales. For the past two years he oversaw McClatchy’s consumer revenue, subscription acquisition and retention programs for their 29 markets, reporting directly to the CEO. Prior to that he served as Regional Vice President for Tribune Publishing. Throughout his 25-year career in publishing he has worked across all areas of circulation, audience and consumer marketing management at the Chicago Tribune before transitioning into a corporate leadership role in 2016.
