BlueLena Guide: Stripe is a versatile and user-friendly online payment processing platform that empowers publications to efficiently handle financial transactions online. Stripe offers a range of features that make it particularly well-suited for publications.

***Note: This is a resource guide for using Stripe as a payment processor, in conjunction with a separate subscriptions management platform (Memberful, Newspack, Wallkit, etc.). Check out this article if you’re using Stripe as both your subscriptions management platform and payment processor.

How do I set up my Stripe account?

If you’re looking to create a Stripe account, you can learn more about this process and setup here.

How do I issue a refund or cancel a subscription?

  • If you’re looking to issue a refund, you can learn more about this process here.
    • To cancel a subscription, go to your subscription management platform, like Memberful, Wallkit, Hype, etc.
    • Stripe is the payment processing platform and doesn’t directly manage subscriptions, cancellations or any account management features outside of refunding. The platform to which a customer has subscribed (Memberful, Wallkit, Hype, etc.) will handle canceling a subscription. Stripe processes the payments/refunds on behalf of that platform.

Why does my Stripe reporting no longer show subscriptions data?

If you’re reading this article, it’s because you’re using Stripe as a payment processor rather than a subscriptions management system. Your subscriptions management system (Wallkit, Memberful, WooCommerce) operates by managing the subscriptions within its own platform and passing these payments through to Stripe. Since Stripe subscriptions reporting only corresponds to Stripe-managed subscriptions, the reporting will no longer populate metrics. Instead, you should refer to the subscriptions management platform that you use and corresponding dashboard for subscriptions.

How do I integrate third-parties?

If you’re looking to integrate a third party (Memberful, Wallkit, Hype, etc.) to your Stripe account, you can learn more about this process and setup here.
